About me
I've had an interest in web site design and construction for a number of years. I built my first website using HTML when I was around 12. Since then I've continued to develop my skills and have applied them to a number of projects, the main ones are listed on this site.

About this website
This website is the personal homepage of me, Ashley Faulkner. It is my web 'playground' from which I can continue to add to and learn from. The site contains some projects I have worked on as well as some templates and graphics I have created.
Web languages used
- HTML- HTML was the first tool I learned. I got into using HTML after getting a free program called FirstPage 2000. This sparked my interest and I began to learn more about it online. I eventually bought a book which helped me learn it inside out.
- JavaScript- After getting to grips with HTML I suddenly wanted to do more. So I began to learn JavaScript. At first I got into the basics and learned how to create some useful things but it didn't seem to really add much, and was tricky to work with. Later I looked into JavaScript again and got a better grasp of it, and also understanding of its uses. Today I use JavaScript to add extra features to sites, mainly with the aim to make objects more interactive and processes smoother.
- CSS- CSS really helped with how I designed for the web. It allowed me to make a change to one simple stylesheet document and then all the pages that work off it change. All of my sites now use CSS as standard.
- XHTML- I switched to using XHTML around about the same time as CSS. It was easy for me to pick up as it's just a stricter version of HTML. The strictness of it is very useful for me as I aim to create sites that work with as many browsers as possible.
- PHP- I've used PHP for quite a while now and have gained a lot of experience in using it. I used PHP to create my main college project, the grooming parlour database. I have also used PHP for this very website as well as faulklea.co.uk which includes a PHP based pedigree builder.
